The most important thing with being pregnant is ensuring the safety and good health of both the mother and the baby inside the womb. To guarantee the safeties of both there are things that needs to be followed and avoided during pregnancy. Here are some ways that can help guarantee a healthy baby and the utmost safety of the mother as well.

 

The first important thing to do is to make sure that the pregnant mom to be lives on a good diet. A great diet and eating the right foods allows for a quick succession and maintaining of energy and gives the proper nutrients to both mother and child.

 

A healthy diet should include vegetables and fresh fruits, most especially dark green vegetables and citrus drinks, which all contains folic acid needed to ensure a healthy pregnancy. Foods rich in carbohydrates such as pasta, cereals, grains, bread and potatoes all offers the proper energy for the mothers and needed boost to the system of the child inside the womb.

 

Other foods like lean fish and meat are very helpful as well as it gives important and essential fatty acids that the body of a pregnant woman needs, drink lots of milk and other dairy products such as cheese, yogurt and fromage frais.

 

Studies have shown that a pregnant mother who eats fishes at least once in a whole week are most likely to experience premature birth, other kinds of fish that also helps in the development of good eyesight for the baby, like sardines, mackerel, trout and fresh tuna. But remember not to digest oily fish that exceeds two servings in a week, so as to maintain balance diet and nutrients for the pregnant woman.

 

Avoid foods that contain high levels of mercury for this will harm the nervous system of the baby. Marlins, sharks, swordfish contains high levels of mercury and should be avoided during pregnancy.

 

Make sure to have your body get a suitable amount of water by drinking at least 8 glasses of water each day, vegetable and fruit juices too can help greatly to the supplying of much needed nutrients to the pregnant mother and the baby.

 

Also, another important thing to remember is that the Food Standards Agency have come up with a recommendation that pregnant women should at least minimize if not totally avoid drinking coffee to lessen caffeine intake.

 

The most important thing to avoid while being pregnant is smoking, drinking alcohol and the use of dangerous and banned illegal drugs. Heavy drinking can cause permanent brain damage to the baby and numerous birth defects as well. While smoking raises the amount of carbon monoxide in the blood of the pregnant mother, thus affecting the baby's growth and development making them prone to health problems and even infection.

 

Drugs meanwhile bring unlimited possibility of health damage not even to the pregnant mothers but to the baby as well, it can cause premature deaths, growth and even death.
