Although most of the time they looked so relaxed and don't seem to mind those pregnancy matters and all, these dads-to-be also have their own concerns while their wives are expecting. They too have their own fears, anxiety, and confusion together with excitement. They know for sure that there will be great changes not only in their husband-and-wife relationship but in the whole house and in his whole life as well.
It not may be obvious but expecting fathers are always there to support his wife all through out her pregnancy until she's in labour. While the wife eats healthy foods, sleeps a lot and adjusts in different inevitable changes, the husband's job is to be the ever reliable no-questions-asked loyal servant especially when the wife starts to throw mood swings. Understand her emotional changes and don't fret if she was happy five minutes ago then suddenly she is sad. And the next thing you know she is already bashing you with pillows and stuff in anger. This is the best test for your patience. It would probably last in the first three months anyway, but there are some women who have mood-swings during her entire pregnancy. Simply be there and offer comfort. It's not really necessary to clown around all the time to make her happy, but it helps when you cheer her up. When she begins to talk about her sentiments, listen to her. Let her tell you all the worries she has. This is also a nice moment to tell her about your own worries as well.
Aside from the emotional adjustment, a pregnant woman's most obvious alteration is in her body. One month after another, her belly will grow as your unborn child develops inside her. At this course, she will feel like the ugliest person ever imagined. All insecurities will eventually rise. For this, she needs to hear reassurance from you that you won't be digging on some girls who are sexier and prettier than she is. Tell her how much you appreciate that she is taking so much care with your unborn child and how beautiful she is in your eyes (even though by the latter months of her pregnancy she might be gaining a lot of pounds). She will be also experiencing dizziness, nausea and vomiting during the first three months of her pregnancy. Understand that these are all part of the hormonal changes happening in her.
There are also dads-to-be who experiences the so-called "sympathy pains" where they have symptoms mimicking those of their pregnant wives such as back pains, dizziness and even mood swings. This usually lasts for a couple of weeks, unlucky are those who suffer from sympathy pains during the whole course of their partner's pregnancy.
Few days or weeks before the much awaited moment, expecting fathers may help the mom-to-be pack for the things needed before going to the hospital. Help her check if everything is placed inside the bag and list the phone numbers you need to tell them the good news once the baby is out. Your wife would surely appreciate you and love you more even after she gave birth to your love-child. |
