Difficult pregnancies are experienced by many women, from very young to near menopausal. Having a child is one of the greatest ambitions of women that is the reason why they can easily take on the risk and go ahead with pregnancy. For pregnant women who are in their 40's there is a great risk to miscarry since the muscles for conception may not be that strong anymore to carry a baby. For young people, it is the opposite. One of the factors that play a great part in childbearing is the muscle of the womb. If a womb is not yet ready physically to carry a child, the pregnancy will eventually be terminated by a miscarriage or some other pregnancy-related illness. GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) pregnancies are very much like other pregnancies. This may happen at a very early age or could be late 30's. The difference lies in the process by which a child was conceived. GLBT often get sperm donors for one of the partners and then have it implanted. This is a highly scientific way of conceiving. There is great success with this kind of conception method for GLBT's. Childbearing is still possible even for those who cannot conceive on their own. The probable setback for this kind of setup would be the emotional ties. Children of donor parents will always have feelings of incompleteness. The issue on whether to expose the real parent now falls on the lap of the GLBT parents. But this is one aspect of parenthood that a GLBT parent must have foreseen before they even proceed to undergo the procedure. Right now there are many options for GLBT parents. There is the possibility of surrogacy, insemination, foster care, adoption, or pregnancy. Surrogate mothers carry the child of GLBT parents who do not like to carry it themselves. This could be a very delicate form of raising a child. The second option would be to undergo insemination. This is choosing a frozen sperm from a bank/freezer and having it injected (In Vitro Fertilization) into the womb of a GLBT parent. Foster care and adoption are two options for GLBT parents who are looking for children to take care of.
There are agencies that can find suitable kids for GLBT parents. The last, pregnancy, is the end product of In Vitro Fertilization. GLBT parents decide on whom among them will make a better ‘mom.' This decision is usually reached by the partners themselves with the help of an expert in the field. |
